Some people think things just happen, random weather patterns, chaos. They think its just a lottery, a hurricane has to hit somewhere and this time it was New Orleans and other places on the coast.
Other people have a guilt complex. We must have caused it; we carbon burners, ozone destroyers, planet haters are for sure to blame.
We crazy people have a different theory: For some strange reason G-d himself sent this fury of a storm to the Gulf States.
(It is easier for me to write about G-d in the masculine form, no offense intended to anyone)
What are you talking about? We are asked. Doesn’t G-d care? What about the children? What have they done?
According to the Baal Shem Tov a leave on a tree does not move if G-d does not want that particular leave to move. G-d has absolute rule over everything that happens in the world (except by his choice our free will).
For sure a hurricane does not come if G-d himself does not want it to come. If G-d controls all the leaves, wouldn’t he control also the Levees?
It is impossible to explain the personal tragedies that happened because of Katrina. Even if it was possible to explain I would not want to do it. G-d has his reasons and only he can understand.
On a national level however is a different thing. We must try to understand the reason why tragedies happen.
The Rambam said that if a tragedy comes and we do not try to understand the reason why it happened then we are being cruel.
What crime has America committed to gain for itself such punishment? Can a crime be so big?
The destruction caused by Katrina has left us at a loss of words. The words Disaster, Calamity, Tragedy do it no justice. The two statements that most closely relate what happened (my opinion) are “Armageddon” and “Biblical Proportions”
But we do find a crime. Just two weeks before Katrina there was another evacuation. The Jews of Gaza were thrown out of their homes.
All this and the world was silent.
Not 1 human rights organization in the world protested
Not one country.
Wait a minute what are you suggesting? Are you suggesting that Katrina is G-d’s punishment for the expulsion of Gaza? Have you gone mad? The Jews expelled themselves. America had nothing to do with it.
America had a lot to do with it. America puts pressure on Israel to give land to the Arabs in exchange of peace. A piece for a peace.
Why does America do this?
Simple answer: There are about 2 Billion Muslims and about 14 million Jews in the world.
Simpler answer: OIL.
G-d utilizes a well known principle to run the world: it is called “mida keneged mida” or Measure for Measure.
President George W. Bush puts pressure on Israel to commit what is essentially national suicide in order to get plenty of oil.
G-d sends a messenger: Katrina. It disrupts the flow of oil
Bush wants cheaper oil. He gets more expensive oil.
There are more examples of Measure for Measure:
What are the Arabs planning to build in Gaza? They must have something important to build there, otherwise why throw out 10,000 Jews from their homes. Uproot their graves.
How about a Casino? Throw out the Jews, destroy their homes, and steal their properties for a Casino?
What did G-d do? He destroyed all the casinos on the Mississippi. Measure for measure.
What about writing a list of all the crimes against all the punishments measure for measure.
The Jews in Gaza were given mandatory evacuation notices.
The army evacuated them.
The buses were late
The buses were vandalized
The last stand was on the roofs
There were fires everywhere.
The pets were left behind
The evacuation was under sniper fire
There was massive looting of their property
They were sent to hotels
The hotels threw them out the next day since they expected other guests.
All this also happened in New Orleans
The Jews had to live in tent cities. The people in America have to go to stadiums.
The expulsion from Gaza destroyed a big part of Israel’s agriculture.
Katrina was an agricultural catastrophe for the United States
One of the most grotesque things that they did in Gaza is uproot graves from cemeteries. Who can do something like this? Today a Jew in Israel does not even own the 2 square meters where he or she is buried.
What did G-d do? He paid to America Measure for Measure. The water in New Orleans also uprooted graves from cemeteries.
All the homes in Gaza were finally razed to the ground with bulldozers. In America this has not happened yet. They are already talking about it though.
Now in Israel they have 10,000 homeless evacuees from Gaza.
Now in America they have about 1’000,000 homeless evacuees from the Gulf
G-d paid them 100 fold
Where did the Huricane hit? Condoleeza Rice’s Home state.
Where are a lot of the evacuees? President George W. Bush’s Home state of Texas
Dear President Bush, Condoleeza Rice, members of congress, citizens of the United States: Please, stop pressuring Israel. Please save America.
